For centuries Gaiwans have been used for Chinese tea rituals, for example the first Gaiwans were developed during the Ming dynasty. Today it is also a practical tool for both “tea tastings” and everyday use.
How it works. Put loose tea in the Gaiwan. Add water of the right temperature to it. Allow the tea to infuse in accordance with the brewing recommendation. Use the lid to hold back the loose tea as the tea is poured. And voila, enjoy your own Chinese tea ritual.
